Dr. Porter met the Maned Wolf and the Red Panda at a animal conservation center where she assisted in an extraction of the Maned Wolf's broken premolar and root canal therapy for the Red Panda's broken canine tooth.
Broken teeth are common to both domestic and wild animals. Trauma to and exposure of the tooth's center where the pulp resides is painful and, left untreated, leads to infection. It is therefore in every animal's interests to have damaged teeth fully evaluated under anesthesia with dental radiology so that the best course of treatment can be taken.
