Animals may need oral surgery for a variety of reasons. Jojo had one of them. He came to the practice because of a sizable jaw tumor that required significant facial surgery. The image here is of Jojo post-op with half of his jaw removed.  He is now tumor free and, as you can see, ready to play.

The mouth is a very common area for tumor

development.  Oral masses can range in type and severity.  Because both benign and maligmant tumors can occur in the mouth, a biopsy of any oral mass is essential in order to properly plan for and proceed with treatment.

Facial fractures are another common reason

for oral surgery.  An animal can break their jaw or other parts of the face in an accident. Sometimes bones break from severe periodontal disease. It is important to consider both the bones and teeth during fracture treatment in order to optimize healing and oral health.
